Random thoughts

I read a lot and a couple of things have struck me recently. The first is the reliance of spellcheckers and predictive text, and the second is that a lot of people seem to write poor English.

Reliance on spellcheckers

Reading newspaper articles, I often see homonyms, which make me think that the article hasn’t been proofread. It disturbs me. Here’s a list of some recent examples:

curb/kerb

calving/carving

site/sight

cue/queue

palate/pallet/palette

Poor English

An online forum is an ideal time-waster. It’s a gift than keeps on giving but, oh dear, some of the posts worry me. I wonder if the posters understand what they say.
